(June 16, 2005) — Four years of parties, classes and friends. Four years of memories to last a lifetime. Four years of unforgettable events to share with future grandchildren. Four years, and now it will all come to an end as the class of 2005 will have to say goodbye. “Everyone always said that senior year would be the best, and it truly was for me,” said Harish Venkitaramanan. Going in as seniors in high school, many students have high expectations of what the year will hold for them. “It’s great because you know all the teachers and you feel like no one can mess with you,” said senior Garen Kutukian. Although senior year is considered to be the easiest and most fun year of high school, the students also had to realize that they had a certain responsibility to uphold. “You finally have the freedom you’ve always wanted, and no one spoon feeds you stuff anymore. I always had to make sure to get the essays done on time, the college applications sent in and so much more,” said Venkitaramanan. While still under constant pressure to do well during the last few months of school, some had a hard time focusing on studies after college applications had been mailed. “My senioritis hit hard and fast, but I still knew I had to maintain my grades for graduation,” said senior Jenny Lee. The thought of completing the long-awaited and dreaded senior projects was taken in with mixed emotions for the seniors this year. “I actually enjoyed working on my senior project because I chose a topic that I was really interested in, and it worked out well for me,” said senior Narek Der-Sahakian. “It was challenging, but that’s what made it fun,” said senior Areg Abcarians. To take weight off their shoulders, seniors took pleasure in visiting with friends and not having to worry about schoolwork during the two senior barbecues held this year. “It was fun getting together as a class with friends and teachers, just to spend some time together because we’ll all be leaving soon and who knows if we’ll ever see each other again,” said Lee. “We’ll always have the Hawaiian leis in memory of the time we spent with one another.” The beaches were a big hit this year for Senior Ditch Day as many chose different beaches down the Southern California coast for a little fun in the sun. “Senior Ditch Day was a huge success. We gathered with a bunch of friends and headed down to Paradise Cove in Malibu where we played ball, swam, ate and just enjoyed not being at school,” said senior Louisa Kadzhabashyan. As the last couple of days of school will soon come to a close, the seniors will take their final steps as high school students, bid their farewells and embark on a new journey.
