(September 29, 2005) — As junior Karapet Shaginyan reviewed his schedule on the first day of school, Cinematography 1-2 was one class that he did not recognize. “I had very minimal knowledge of of what cinematography was. However, after the first day I knew it would be a class that I would really enjoy,” Shaginyan said. Focused on the fundamentals of filmmaking, cinematography as a new elective offers students the basic knowledge of visually producing images in their minds. The class first deals with textbook information and digital camera management. Sutdents will then learn the essentials of editing, filmic timing, camera composition and story telling. “I am looking forward for the students to produce a short demo reel and ujnderstand the creative aspects and fundamentals of filming,” said teacher Matthew Stroup. Former Web Design teacher Tom Martin teaches E-Marketing. The class is offered to students who have completed the primary Web-design course. E-marketing involves a more in-depth study of flash, CSS and Java Script. Students will enhance previous skills with conditional programming and involvement with basic flash for the Web. Martin said that he hopes for some well-done student Web sites. Another elective offered is Introduction to Engineering, taught by teacher Jennifer Hughes. An enhancement of computer repair, Introduction to Engineering will familiarize students with the disciplines of engineering. Sophomore Alex Matyosian says the class is very enjoyable with group activities and projects. The course involves electronic programmin, computer repair, gears and system integration. “I am eager in submitting student designs in a science fair and getting students to become A+ Certified,” Hughes said. Teacher Julie Ann Melville Arenas is delighted to teach AP Spanish 9-10. The class is designed to motivate students as they improve their Spanish skills while preparing for the AP exam. Arenas’ goal is to provide students with a review of language skills, techinques and practice to help ensure success on AP test day. With a new selection of electives, Clark is also providing seniors with two new math courses: Geomety Concepts and Algebra 2 Thinking. These classes give seniors the opportunity to gather required math credits for graduation and supply students with additiomal mathematical ideas.
