(March 1, 2006) — In Glendale, one has many avenues where they can purchase music (assuming that teenagers today still purchase music and don’t mash the plastic out of the download button). Actually going out and purchasing music can be quite the nostalgic experience for some, and for others, it is just another way to waste precious allowance and get yelled at by parents. But where should one go? Tower Records? The Wherehouse? Target? Borders? All worthy options for sure, but most of the time, these giant multi-national conglomerates simply lack the knowledgeable customer service youths rely on today (assuming that teenagers today still value knowledgeable customer service). So again, to restate the original question, where should one go? The simple answer: Foothill Records. Nestled comfortably in the La Cañada- Flintridge area about four miles from Clark, Foothill Records is an excellent mom-and-pop alternative to the more commercial record stores dispersed around the greater Glendale area. Having only been open for fi ve years, Foothill Records has still managed to have quite the wide selection of inventory. According to owner Carol Schofi eld, the shop carries music “spanning 75 years, with everything from sheet music, LPs, 45s, CDs, cassettes, concert photos, jukeboxes and much more”—hardly the inventory of any standard music store. Also, aside from this wide selection of varying items, Foothill Records also has amazingly low prices (take that Wal-Mart). Specializing in music from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, it is no wonder why an increasing number of younglings from today’s generation happen to like Foothill Music so much. Younglings Cañada Blvd. Verdugo Blvd. Foothill Blvd. Honolulu Ave. Ocean View Blvd. together. Servantez and fellow Senior Shane Nazari both play a racing game called Initial D. “It’s really fun, even though I always lose to Shane,” Servantez said. Nazari agrees. “The best part about being able to compete and beat your friends is that after, no matter what happens, win or lose you are trying your best and having fun.” “All those big-name stores are selling reproductions of vintage stuff, but I have the real thing for $2,” Davila said. So if you’re looking for a unique frock, a hot pink boa or vintage Jackie-O sunglasses, Pattye’s Closet is the place to go. like senior John Lee, who visits often to “browse through the Classic Rock section.” And for Lee, classic rock is where it’s at, as Foothill Records carries “a lot of Beatles records and recordings for cheaper prices than other stores.” Along with the extensive collection of classicrock- related memorabilia, Foothill Records also has a broad assortment of pop, R&B, classical and country music, so connoisseurs of any type music will not be disappointed. Thus, next time one is in search of a cool and trendy location within the hilly confi nes of Glendale to buy music, look no further than Foothill Records—one of the few music-related establishments that have not given in to corporate worship and still holds true to rock and roll’s sole message: sticking it to the man.
