(May 10, 2006) — Hepatitis C, a messy divorce and a career as a Playboy model; seems like the life of every porn star, right? But this one’s different. Even if you don’t watch television, you must have heard about the Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee sex tape. It was eight years ago that the honeymoon sex tape was allegedly stolen from the couple’s home and distributed by Internet Entertainment Group, Inc. (IEG). Although Anderson presented herself as a teary-eyed celebrity who was caught by an apathetic robber, she has made a whopping $750,000 on the stolen tape, since the court demanded the IEG bosses to pay up, after not showing up in court. When a class of about 35 students was asked about the Pamela and Tommy Lee sex tape, most of the Clark students had either heard about or seen some clips of it. “For them it can be good or bad publicity,” said senior Tigran Gabrielyan. Some feel celebrity tapes cause controversy and that is why people want to hear more about it. “They’re celebrities. It’s more interesting for people when you know who it is, rather than a murder story on someone you don’t know,” said senior Tatevik Kazaryan. Celebrities consume the everyday lives of pop culture fanatics. From their clothes, to makeup, to hairdos, they seem to be gathering fans, even if it is because of a sex tape. “Everyone is so obsessed with sex, that these sex tapes have become a trend,” senior Mariam Petrosian said.
