(June 19, 2006) — Every year masses of people of all backgrounds, sexes, interests and walks of life flock to the Anaheim Convention Center for the yearly Anime Expo. The Anime Expo is held every year and has consecutively succeeded in increasing its numbers over its 15-year run. The convention takes place on the Fourth of July weekend every year and is home to many events and an endless list of things to do. From arcades to console-gaming halls, Anime Expo has it all and definitely draws in all sorts of people. The convention attracts with many features, but one of the fan favorites is the “Dealer Hall,” where various companies and stores sell merchandise. Also in Dealer Hall, various companies showcase anime and give away freebies in order to draw convention-goers to their booths. Besides Dealer Hall, every year the convention has an extremely large arcade furnished with the best machines. The competition gets extremely rough as tournaments are held every year—a competitive swing to make things at the convention all the more fun. One big attraction is that each hotel in the area has three-to-four theatres that show Anime 24/7, a huge gift to the fans who simply love to watch their favorite shows. Other attractions include karaoke, dances and other social activities. However, the biggest draw of Anime Expo lies in the environment and, more importantly, the cosplayers, who sew and create costumes in order to look like their favorite anime or video game characters. Sophomore Angie Wang is greatly interested in the convention and has been going since 2003. She goes for the daily activities and especially the cosplayers. She loves seeing them dressed and enjoys the shows they put on. “Ninety percent of cosplayers are bad, but the 10 percent that are extremely good make it worth all the while.” For people of all ages and all backgrounds, Anime Expo will prove to be a fun summer convention for even those who aren’t heavily interested in Anime. For the singer, the dancer and the gamer, Anime Expo has something to keep you interested, so be sure to keep a lookout this July.
