(November 1, 2006) — Freshman Alex Abraamian walked around the white tables that were set up Oct. 19 for Club Rush, looking for interesting clubs to sign up for. “It is an opportunity for me to get involved in the school,” Abraamian said. “Since I’m new, Club Rush opened my eyes to a different part of Clark.” Director of Club Relations, senior Armig Khodanian, had a lot to do with setting up the event, speaking to many club representatives and teachers to see which clubs were still active. At the weeklong event, nine long tables were set up at the bottom of the amphitheater, representing 18 out of 30 active clubs. Some students said that they would prefer other methods of showcasing clubs. “I think they should have an assembly to show us what each club has to offer, or what they do in the club,” said freshman Lianna Damargi. According to ASB Advisor Kristina Provost, Club Rush has been held annually for about nine years. Students were given a week to approach the tables and speak to representatives of each club. Among others, Dance Club and Hiking Club were able to collect almost 100 members. New clubs included SPRINT (Student Power Runners in Training) that prepares students for the LA Marathon by having them meet at the Rose Bowl every Sunday for long runs, Latino club, which is now being led more by students as opposed to Spanish teacher Victoria Marcucci and Bookworms, which is geared towards book discussions. “There is a larger variety of clubs and it has gotten more exciting,” said senior Sarine Bagramyan. “Even as a senior I am still down here wanting to join.”
