(February 23, 2007) — Students lined up Feb. 16 to buy lahmajun, popularly known as “Armenian pizza” that was being sold for a $1 each, in order to raise funds for the upkeep of the club. Armenian Club’s purpose for this fundraiser was to raise money in order to support certain Armenian organizations that give to the needy or orphans. “Our goal is to heighten the awareness of the Armenian community in Glendale,” said Armenian Club advisor Susan Howe. She also said that if the fundraiser went well they might even make it a monthly event. This fundraiser sold out 300 pizzas that were purchased from Venice Classic Pastry, earning the club $300. Despite the success, some students were disappointed. “Where are the lemons?” junior Anahit Akopchikyan said. The event attracted groups of hungry students. “I didn’t expect this much of a turnout,” Armenian Club President Hayarpi Nersisyan said. “We should do this more often.”
