(April 13, 2007) — The only thing more prevalent than hearing the whispers of “Who are you going to prom with?” is “What’re you doing for spring break?” The classic answer to that would be going to someplace cliché like Cancun. The only problem is that parents tend to say “no” to all night partying and leaving the house for more than a few days. So for the people that fall into this category, fear not. There are plenty of things to do while staying local. And the next best thing to going to Cancun is to sleep in. “I’m going to sleep really late and sleep in,” freshman Hripsime Kaichian said. “Seriously. Then watch T.V. and spend time with my friends.” Going out with friends or family to theme parks is also a nice alternative to staying home. Junior Andrea Peralta plans to go with her cousin to the wonderful world of Disneyland. Other students are also planning trips to popular theme parks such as Six Flags Magic Mountain and Raging Waters. Those who drive have a little more freedom than those who don’t. They have the option of going with their families or just friends. “We’re going to the beach with our friends,” seniors Ani Nadimyan and Lusine Karapetyan said at the same time. “We might have a picnic and chill. Maybe even drown each other.” “But I’m going to Magic Mountain,” finished Karapetyan. Senior Jessica Choi plans to take a trip to San Diego to tour around the University of California, San Diego. “I might stay at my friend’s dorm at San Diego. I’m going to check out the campus and maybe even party a little.” Sophomore Nick Galadzhian, on the other hand, plans to have a relaxing spring break. “[There are] a lot of birthday parties… maybe chill with friends,” he said. I’m not sure if I’m going to Raging Waters… I might. Then play World of Warcraft.” Like Galadzhian, senior John Cismas plans to stay local for spring break. His plans include playing basketball, going out with friends, eating and watching T.V. “I applied for a job so I might also be working,” Cismas said. Going someplace where a bunch of drunken teenagers run around might seem like the perfect spring break for some. But for others, relaxing at home might be the perfect fix. It might be watching T.V. at a friend’s house or going out to the movies. Whatever it is, the number one thing everyone is trying to achieve is relaxation.
