(June 14, 2007) — There are few things that distinguish seniors from everyone else: senior T-shirts, class rings and, of course, the gown and tassel they wear for graduation. These, however, sparked criticism among students. For instance, most seniors who bought the T-shirts were content with them, especially because the Tshirts can replace collared shirts on Wednesdays. A few students, on the other hand, complained about the poor quality of them. “The design, which was not too bad, began to crack after washing it once or twice,” senior Anand Sharma said. In addition, the names of all the seniors were so small that people had to squint closely at the back of the T-shirt to read them. The negative response from the seniors about the class rings was even greater than the one about the T-shirts. Students in general expected a significant group of seniors to purchase class rings, but only a few students have bought them. Senior William Pettijohn-Hernandez is one of those few. “I did not see a down side to having one,” he said. “It’s cool, unique, and you only have one chance to buy them.” Others refused to buy them because they thought the rings were too expensive, unattractive and easy to lose. Unlike the class T-shirts and rings, gowns and tassels for graduation were not badly criticized. Many students even bought an extra tassel to hang it around their rear-view mirror in the car. Students, however, did complain about the color of the gowns, which cannot be altered because it is Clark’s very own shade of green.
