(October 5, 2007) — At 7:30 a.m., Sept. 14, a team of faculty, ASB class members and one Publications editor had already been working for 30 minutes in preparation for the annual Freshmen Pancake Breakfast. The ASB staff waited while the smoky air slowly moved to the ceiling of the covered lunch area, “the calm before the storm,” assistant principal Kristina Provost said with a laugh. About 350 freshmen gathered in the amphitheater for a short speech from ASB advisor Susan Giatti. They were then introduced to class advisors Armineh Mikaelian and Ani Mikaelian. While Ani Mikaelian was unable to attend the assembly because she had to teach, Armineh Mikaelian was able to give a welcoming speech to the freshmen. She stated that she and her sister were proud to be their advisors for the next four years. After that, the freshmen were dismissed by categories, like the color of their shirts or hair types. The freshmen made their way to the auditeria where the ASB class had set up a walkway. Students watched a video of the previous year’s senior events, while some looked off in admiration on what the ASB had created for them. ASB members patrolled the lines, handing out fliers for ASB hopefuls to fill out. “I want to live life to the fullest,” freshman Olivia Pralle said when she was asked why she wanted to join ASB. The staff was especially excited for this new group of students. “I always look forward to the new freshmen,” said Kaylnne Brown, ASB account clerk. ASB members also served the pancakes as they made their way through the line. Some freshmen decided to mess with balloons while others waited patiently. Freshmen then made their way to the concrete tables to enjoy their food. “The pancakes were great, but the sausages were burned,” freshman Liana Babloyan said. When they finished eating, the freshmen where allowed to walk around freely. Some chatted, while a group of boys played football.
