(October 5, 2007) — Far from the days of boy band hysteria, former ‘NSYNC front man Justin Timberlake is taking the world by storm as a pop solo artist. His Future/Sex/Love tour packed the Staples Center with screaming fans this fall. Among the fans were some of our fellow Clarkies. Timberlake put on three shows last month, all of which were attended by students from Clark. Senior Suze Uzunyan said that the concert was no simple event. “For most people it was probably the biggest event of the year,” Uzunyan said. Outside the Staples Center, Timberlake fans showed their support with posters. Some fans arrived in limousines and fancy rented cars. Once out of their cars, they were immediately bombarded with posters of Timberlake, courtesy of Verzion and sample perfumes, which, according to senior Christina Garibyan who attended with Uzunyan, smelled terrible. The shows were also teeming with special appearances. All three concerts featured appearances by Timberland. The show would not have been the same if “Timberland didn’t step in and keep the audience hyped while they waited for Justin,” junior Talin Amadian said. Timberland’s tribute to Alyiah made his contributions to the show unforgettable for senior Zara Grigorian, who went to the concert with her sister sophomore Gayane Grigorian and some other friends. Along with Timberland, Kanye West appeared at two of the three shows, singing his new single, “Stronger.” A common pattern in all three of these shows, however, was Timberlake’s outrageous behavior, not quite mirroring the bygone boy band days. As an attempt to further himself from the boy band image, Timberlake drank on stage, cursed frequently and had pole dancers for some of his songs. Children sitting in the row in front of Uzunyan were immediately taken home by their parents once Timberlake started cursing. “It wasn’t a show for little children,” Uzunyan said. Despite his occasional adult behavior, Timberlake fans stay devoted. Some admire him for his musical talent, while others admire him simply as eye candy. But no matter what the case, there is no doubt that Timberlake will never run out of admirers.
