(March 14, 2008) — Politicians: human beings in power who are expected to never make mistakes. In the past week I have heard of two politicians who have in someway embarrassed themselves and their supporters. Gov. Eliot Spitzer of New York was found to be part of a prostitution ring. Gov. Spitzer was the former attorney general and it was his job to uphold the law, yet he thought he was above the law when he participated in one of the worst federal crimes you can commit (barring murder and slavery). How can we expect to have a fair a government when people like this help run our government? Why do we live in a world where people are so fake? They play the “good guy” in front of the camera, but in their private lives all they stand for means nothing to them. I’m not saying that all politicians are corrupt, but when they make a mistake the world knows. For example, the Clinton “scandal” was not exactly an uncommon thing, but it turned the world on its ear. It doesn’t help that there are people whose lives are dedicated to making leaders look bad. Monica what’s her name became a celebrity because of her affair with President Bill Clinton. What I really want to know is why does the American public love to demean itself to the world? Instead of quietly taking care of our problems we blow them up and spread the story worldwide. Why don’t we take care of each other and ourselves? There is nothing I love more than a huge piece of gossip, but looking back on all the things I’ve heard I realize that it’s not worth my time. I’m not saying I won’t continue to search out the best and juiciest gossip, but maybe I will take everything I hear with a grain of salt. On the high school level I’ve heard some pretty outrageous things: people steal other people’s men, heartless boys play mind games, etc. Why is it that high school and the real world are so similar? In a few months I thought I was getting out of this hellhole known as adolescence, but it turns out I’m just being released into a larger pond. If only people could make the world better, one day when I’m famous I hope I remember how I feel now and I’ll make sure to rock the hell out of the world. And to the people who pass me in the halls and make comments in another language I know what kurik , gyot , galooboy and many other words mean, so don’t think you’re slick. Thank goodness for China…see ya.
