(April 10, 2008) — As senior prom draws near, students are getting more and more excited. “It’s our last major event with the whole class,” senior Beny Babu said. Babu and the rest of her graduating class have been waiting for senior prom ever since the beginning of their freshman year. In just the first two days, approximately 152 students had already purchased tickets. The most special part about prom for Babu will be “just being together for our last major event before graduation.” Class advisor Carol Pettegrew has contributed greatly to the effort of making this year’s senior prom the best yet. “We’ve been organizing it since last year,” Pettegrew said. Last year, Pettegrew and several others went to various locations in order to choose a venue. Senior prom has never taken place at the same location twice. This year, the senior class officers, along with Pettegrew and the school administration, agreed upon the La Cañada Country Club. Pettegrew said that although some of the students were disappointed because prom will be taking place so close to home, they will love it when they get there. “We have the entire top floor of the country club,” Pettegrew said. “We have a room for dinner and dancing, we have a room for drinks and coats and purses.” The country club also has an outdoor balcony with tables, where students can sit and relax. Not only is the setting very convenient, but the DJ, known as Kid J, is also very talented. “Last year’s DJ was so good, we hired him again.” Pettegrew said. “He just has like a really amazing understanding of what people like to hear.” Kid J is even going to do a live video while the students dance. This year, students are going with a more elegant kind of theme. “It’s always elegant, it’s always very nice, but we really worked hard to have enough money to get the better food and nicer gifts,” Pettegrew said. What is especially unique about this year’s senior prom is that Clark students and staff are going to be the only ones there after about 9 p.m. In previous years, there has always been something else going on while Clark’s senior prom was taking place. This year, it’s all about Clark. Pettegrew and the rest of the organizers of senior prom reserved space for 240 people, but Pettegrew said, “We’re selling tickets like hotcakes, so I’m hoping that we sell more than 240.” Since the graduating class of 2008 has such a strong committee, they have managed to keep ticket prices reasonably low and still afford everything necessary to have a memorable prom. “They’ll love it,” Pettegrew said. “It’s what you look forward to your senior year.”
