(Nov. 4, 2008) — The Barracuda. The Hottie. Megan Fox? No, Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, also known as Caribou Barbie. Palin certainly had her fair share of torment from the “liberal media elite,” from the time she was announced as John McCain’s running mate on Aug. 29. Interviews and speeches she has given during her campaign along with her moose-hunting, hockey-mom, down-home Alaskan lifestyle have made for much humorous material for comedy skits like those with Tina Fey on SNL. Television shows like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report have dissected every slip-up she has made during her time as governor and the last couple months as Vice Presidential nominee to try to persuade voters into believing that she has little credibility for being Vice President if John McCain is elected. Their sources of material are vast, however, because not only does she make mistakes such as occasional “um”s and “ah”s but also she has many times been at a loss for not only words, but also knowledge. On the famous Katie Couric interview on CBS, Palin was cornered and was not only at a loss for words, but at an apparent loss of knowledge. When asked about what magazines she read to inform herself of global and national issues, she could name any one in particular, instead she resorted to saying that just because she is from Alaska, does not mean she is ill-informed. Palin has not only been in lack of information during her interviews, but she has also made many remarks in reference to her lifestyle as a “hockey mom” that have got the media’s attention. During her speech at the Republican convention, she referred to hockey mom’s being no different than Pit Bulls with lipstick. Although that did get a roar of applause from the conservatives at the convention, many women and even men were against the persona she was conveying. Matt Damon, a Barack Obama supporter referred to Sarah Palin’s decision to run for election as “a really bad Disney movie, ‘The Hockey Mom’.”
