A loud screech shatters the morning silence; the smell of burning rubber permeates through the air. Like a scene from the latest 007 movie, an expensive car speeds across the asphalt and skids to a halt across multiple parking spaces. Where does one go to see this kind of pulse-pounding automobile action? Look no further than our very own school parking lot. You may or may not have had the distinct feeling of being only a skid-mark away from death when walking to your car. In the mornings only one kind of parking etiquette in particular is noticeable: people who park like they’re driving a fire truck. Picture this if you will: you arrive late to school and start looking for a space in a parking lot that is seemingly full. You go all the way to the back of the lot in search of deliverance, only to find three spots filled by a single car parked across all three of them. Now, some students may like to think they’re an MI6 agent hopped up on martinis that are shaken, not stirred, but in reality none of us can say we’ve fought with a man named Goldfinger. That being said, for we mere mortals driving recklessly is dangerous and before long someone is going to get killed. Walking through the parking lot, hearing the bass from someone’s sound system is the equivalent of the theme song from Jaws : it’s a sign that it’s time to run. Fast. The only way to fix this problem is for every student to start driving safely, otherwise someone is actually going to get seriously hurt. The last thing we need is human road-kill taking up valuable parking space.
