Once in a while at Clark, you see someone bring a handful of balloons to school. It usually means that there is a birthday on campus. But starting this week, students were told they could no longer bring balloons with them on the buses. This rule was created due to the fact that balloons are a distraction and dangerous to the bus driver. In addition, when the bus is on the freeway, and the windows are open, balloons can fly out of the bus. According to counselor Karen Carlson, balloons are a safety hazard. “Balloons make it distracting for the bus driver and can cause chaos,” Carlson said. On the other hand, senior Nanar Bodaghyan, who has experienced balloons in the bus often in her years at Clark says, “I think it (the rule) is stupid. Balloons are supposed to bring joy, not be a problem.” Students can still bring balloons onto campus, but will have to find an alternate way to transport them. Any students who decide to bring balloons onto a school bus, will not be able to ride the bus.
