The hot blazing sun is out as softball teams the Angels and the D’Backs take on one another in their first game of Clark’s intramurals softball. Teams started their games Sept. 22 as soon as Intramurals director Judy Thomsen began handing out the forms on Sept. 15. Around 140 players were dispersed among the 14 teams of their choice. Team captains rushed to pick up their roster lists as quickly as possible to snatch up their friends and the best talent. “I wanted to play some sports to lose a little weight,” said sophomore Chris Inductivo, “but I have the desire to win and there are a lot of good people in other teams to compete against.” Although Inductivo has the desire to win, he admits that the most frustrating part is looking for athletic people to play for your team because most of the good players are already taken. He also said lots of people who do want to join aren’t so good. This year all the teams who are competing with other players seem to have the same passion as Inductivo to win the 2008 World Series Championship. Junior William Reinoso says he joined a team to play with friends and for fun, though he is worried about last year’s runners up. “Casey’s team and Alvin’s team were really close to winning before but we have a really good chance of winning too,” Reinoso said. Reinoso said he is confident his team will win. “They better watch out because we’re gonna win this time. We have experience and we play good together.” So far, his team, the Indians, has proven his words to be true as they beat the Expos 12-7. This year, every team packs potential and has the ability to wreak some havoc on the competition. All the teams have to watch out for each other. The defending champions a year ago, the Expos, graduated last year and now it’s time for new champions to be triumphant at the trophy awarding ceremony. The Expos were victorious due to a solid infield and outfield and an explosive offense that was always putting up big numbers. They crushed almost every team they faced throughout the tournament. The new crop of teams looks to replicate these skills and have it reflect on their place in the standings. Two or three games are still continuing for all the teams before the real elimination rounds begin. Right now, there is no way to predict the results of the tourney thanks to the widespread talent. As the softball games are heating up, let the home runs fly!
