When thinking of Apple’s new iPod Nano, the Nano-Chromatic, the word “rockalicious” comes to mind. This new model has loads of innovative features and a new sleek, curved outline. Apple even boasts it has “the world’s biggest small screen.” The Nano-Cromatic boasts many new features, some of which are borrowed from the iPod Touch and the iPhone. Motion sensitivity, thanks to a built in accelerometer, is one of them. This feature allows the user to view the album cover of the song he or she is listening to. Junior Andrew Aroché said, “The tilt screen is not much help but it’s a cool feature to have.” The Nano-Chromatic also has a shuffle feature that shuffles the songs the user is listening to when the user shakes the iPod. Apple designed this feature to shuffle through the songs when the user is dancing, running, etc. This adds an enjoyable quirk to the new Nano. Aroché said that he really likes the shuffle feature, while Freshman Elijah Lopez said the shuffle feature may backfire on the user. The feature does have the potential to backfire especially when you accidentally shake the iPod and it messes up your playlist. The Nano-Chromatic has a new widescreen display capable of playing videos. “The world’s biggest small screen” is one of the slogans apple is using to promote this, but at a mere two inches horizontally, is the new screen too small for movies? Both Aroché and Lopez said, “The screen is too small for watching movies.” Lopez even added that “you’ll need glasses after watching a movie on that thing.” The Nano-Chromatic has simply incorporated some of the innovative features from the other iPods and shrunk them down. When asked if the Nano-Cromatic is worth a purchase Aroché said, “The new Ipod is cool because it’s compact and has new features, but as long as I have my music I’m ok.” Lopez said, “The new features are tight but new ones will come. eventually.” Until then, students will still be running to get the cool new iPod. In all different colors.
