The Patriots had a loss, even before their game was over. Opening weekend of the NFL season in New England at Gillette Stadium was… well how do I put it? If the game could be replayed, that might be the only way the Patriots can get past this injury. Brady’s pain was inflicted after Bernard Pollard of the Kansas City Chiefs made a nasty dive into Brady’s left knee. Brady could be seen clutching his banged up knee, and was roaring in pain. This is going to be a thorn in the Patriots’ side that won’t come out until the end of the season. With Brady hurt, it has not only affected the Patriots, but it has seriously opened up the AFC East. The New York Jets’ acquisition of Brett Favre makes them a force to be reckoned with. Don’t forget about the Buffalo Bills who are 4-0. And how about those Miami Dolphins? I have to give them a lot of credit in beating the Patriots at Gillette Stadium. I think the Dolphins upset them by attacking Matt Cassel (who has not started a game since high school), and by using a formation the Patriots could not have watched in their game film. This was smart on the part of the Dolphins, who avoided another Patriot Spy Gate. The week three loss to the Dolphins answers a few of my questions. The Patriots dynasty is officially over and this has made way for the Dallas Cowboys (who are my pick to win the championship). The Cowboys can start their own dynasty, and I believe they have enough talent. Tony Romo is a decent enough quarterback. He definitely has enough to think about this year, after losing in the first round of the playoffs the last two years. I think he has enough playoff losses to understand what it takes to win “the big game”. I believe the Cowboy have the pieces to win, with Terrell Owens, Marion Barber and a stingy defense. However, if the Cowboys don’t win a playoff game this year, I don’t think owner Jerry Jones will accept that. The fact is that the Cowboys have not had a playoff win since ‘96. That is like the Chicago Cubs not winning a World Series in 100 years. If the Cowboys don’t win a playoff game this year, then the clock starts ticking on Romo’s job. I am disgusted by the fact that a Pittsburgh fan club has poked fun of the Brady injury by titling a shirt with the words, “Bernard Pollard fan club – Established September 7, 2008.” In addition, on the shirt is Brady’s # 12 with a slash through it. I don’t think it will even sell well with the $18.99 price tag on it plus shipping. I wish good luck to the Patriots this season and say “Hasta la vista” to their dynasty. USC apparently does not know how to stop the Oregon State Beavers. I am really happy that USC lost recently because it opens up a spot for other teams to play in the championship game. I am still astounded by how Oregon State coach Mike Riley dismantled USC in the first half (21-0). Ironically, I am an Oregon Ducks fan, whose rival is the Beavers. This week the Ducks are playing the Trojans. I think this is going to be a fun game to watch. I’llbe watching the game at home and eating Sun Chips. The Ducks are going to win on Saturday! My prediction is 28-27, Oregon.
