Boston Red Sox win World Series

One year ago, the Boston Red Sox finished as the AL East’s worst divisional team. Their team was falling apart. But General Manager Ben Cherington would not see to it. During the previous offseason he signed Ryan Dempster, Koji Uehara, David Ross, Stephen Drew, Mike Napoli, Jonny Gomes, Shane Victorino and others. These men later would be invaluable for the Boston Red Sox’s revent victory in the 2013 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

On Oct. 30, in Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox made history and defeated the St. Louis Cardinals. The Red Sox achieved something they had not done in 95 years: close out a World Series in Boston. “We’re always proving people wrong. We’re America’s team. Boston is the greatest in all sports. We are the champions,” said Clark junior Aram Atamian.

Although General Manager Ben Cherington gave the Red Sox a chance to win on paper, player David Ortiz gave the Red Sox a chance to win on the field. Ortiz carried the offense for the Red Sox by batting .688 and had a staggering .760 on-base percentage. He was later named the most valuable player of the series. With this recent championship, David Ortiz now has three world series victories, all with the Boston Red Sox.

The St. Louis Cardinals may have lost this time, but they still have a great, young team that is only going to get better. And because of their amazing front office, they are always the favorites to win the World Series. “The Cardinals may have lost this year, but I have no doubt they will be still playing in late October next year!” said junior David Agajanian. “I mean, have you seen our rookie Wacha!”
