My Café: A Piece of Home
Artsakh Avenue welcomes a small, but chic, two story cafe: My Café. The property previously inhabited a hair salon but has now been transformed into a beautiful cafe with a fresh and modern aesthetic. A portion of the store still remains as the classic My Salon.
Owner Ani Gafafyan, sister of Armenian singer Super Sako, already has an above average following. With her audience, many people who keep up with her were excited for the opening up of the cafe that’s located in a popular location for Glendale, walking distance from the Americana and right on Artsakh Avenue.
The cafe overall carries a beautiful and clean aesthetic. The two stories of My Café are filled with multicolored velvet couches and chairs with simplistic round tables, each accompanied by a small vase of a variety of flowers. As said by Gafafyan all over her tiktok accounts, My Café is a “specialty cafe located in the heart of Glendale, CA”, and she couldn’t be more correct.
The outside of the cafe is covered with colorful flowers hung over the surrounding fence. With both indoor and outdoor seating, any customer will love the pleasant views provided by the spring colors. When visiting the cafe, you are welcomed by smiling faces and an essence of elegance.
The menu has a large variety of options: both sweet and savory breakfast foods, such as crepes, waffles, avocado toast, and sandwiches; along with a variety of beverages like coffee, tea, and smoothies. The cakes are easily the best options they have within their desert menu. The carrot cake is very light with a subtle sweetness, tasting very organic. Sweets can definitely be considered a speciality at My Café.
As the cafe is Armenian owned, they have a coffee option that hits close to home. Traditionally, Armenian coffee is typically made over a heated sand box. The heated sand allows for the coffee in the coffee pot, called jazzve, to brew in a natural way. My Café offers this unique luxury on their delicious menu, attracting many Armenians.
With a predominantly Armenian staff along with their Armenian delicacy options, My Café provides a piece of home that is meaningful to many Armenians. However, the Armenian influence on the cafe should not redirect people of other cultures. In fact, My Café provides an excellent environment with great cuisines for anybody; not everything at this cafe is all traditional.
Aiming for a youthful audience as well, My Café has several unique lattes. The Ferrero Rocher Latte and the Caramel Popcorn coffee are unusual in the coffee realm, but that doesn’t stop them from being delectable.
Every little detail in My Café makes for the perfect environment. Oftentimes, customers can see Gafafyan sitting near the entrance of her cafe, taking it all in. My Café is a reflection of Gafafyan and how much she cares for her town; she is an approachable woman who loves to have conversations with her customers. Overall, My Café to Glendale is a lovely addition to Glendale and is definitely worth the visit.
