Beauty has started to become a controversial topic, well, not really “beauty” itself, but the lengths women and now teens are going to reach “perfection.” The latest headline is about how Kylie Jenner revealed that she had lip fillers to make her lips look bigger. It’s hard to believe how far anyone would think to go to “fix” themselves or better yet how parents have been allowing their teens to get plastic surgery.

It’s understandable if a teen gets plastic surgery for reconstructive reasons such as a birth defect or to correct damage from an injury, but to get surgery just because of people’s opinion of their body should not be acceptable. You can’t please everyone, so even if a celebrity gets 100 surgeries, there will always be someone who will criticize their looks.

All that matters is what kind of person is on the inside. What I am outraged about is that parents are actually willing to allow their teenage daughters to get plastic surgery. Why would they think there is a logical reason to allowing their daughter to fill out their lips or fix their nose?

Yes, it may help their daughter look better, but they’re still in school and there are so many limits once someone gets plastic surgery. Studies have shown that teens should have the correct the emotional maturity level for the limitations of surgery. Teens are young, and their idealized impression of plastic surgery is not realistic.  Also, there isn’t a 100% guarantee that nothing will go wrong during or after the surgery.

Many risks of going through plastic surgery include rupture of implants, permanent scarring, necessity of additional surgery to replace or remove surgical implants, long-term maintenance that are required after surgery, and the chance the teen may change his or her mind after the surgery.

Parents should look out for the children, and they shouldn’t just cave to their daughter’s request just because she wants to impress someone.
