The Clark Magnet High School’s Publications class is bringing back Humans of Clark, a storytelling project based on the popular series, Humans of New York, by Brandon Stanton. Aiming to highlight the lives, passions, or interesting facts about the people who make up the school community, the project reminds students that every individual has a unique story to tell.
Originally launched in 2017, Humans of Clark paired a student portrait with a short interview that revealed the experiences, opinions, or facts about the student being highlighted. The project offered a glimpse into the lives of people that are often passed by in the hallways. Now, the Publications team aims to revive the project with a more modern energy.
The project offers a change of pace from regular schoolwide news. Each post will reveal something unexpected, whether it be a hidden talent, a future goal, or a fun fact. Each post will help people see familiar faces in a new light.
Alumni Anaida Haroutiunian was interviewed for the project back in 2019, “If a school dedicates an area for students to showcase their thoughts and interests, it allows students to bond. It’s definitely a great way to connect with others and form friendships with people you may not have known share similar values and passions,” Haroutiunian said.
Humans of Clark can offer students a break from the usual school day, sharing genuine stories to inspire connection. In a world where scrolling through social media can feel overwhelming, with all its negative content, short-lived trends and overconsumption. Reading Humans of Clark may inspire people to slow down, and connect with one another, reminding everyone that even with the rush and stress of school, there is purpose in slowing down to listen. The series is more than a collection of interviews and photos. It emphasizes that every individual has a story, no matter how big or small. Bringing back this short-lived tradition will strengthen community bonds, encourage kindness, and allows classmates to see each other in a deeper light. Everyone has something to say, and Humans of Clark provides a source where those stories are not only shared, but also celebrated.
