After a memorable senior sunrise, many seniors are anticipating more events, one of which is the annual senior barbeque. The graduating class of 2024 came together for a traditional and sensational barbeque, with tasteful delights and an abundance of shared memories.
Organized by Clark’s ASB, the senior BBQ began at the beginning of fourth period and continued through lunch. “Setting up for Senior BBQ was a calm process for us since we all knew what we were doing and how to do it,” senior Lilit Karapetyan said. “Each person had their own task, and it turned out great.”
Right as fourth period began, the senior class gathered in the amphitheater to take their long established tradition of the panorama photo in which students are directed to specific seats to create the shape of their graduating year. “We used last year’s panorama photo to calculate and correct the seating chart with blue tape the day before to make this process go smoothly. It’s pretty difficult to imagine what the “24” will look like from the rooftop while you’re standing in the amphitheater” senior Ariana Garibian said.
Mrs. Tatevosian used her bright pink megaphone to direct students from the rooftop to get the ‘24 to look as clean as possible. Teachers on the ground floor helped direct the students and Mr. Zamlich took several shots before announcing a great photo was captured. Meanwhile, Mr. Bishop flew a drone overhead to capture footage of the students from a different perspective. “This was the first time I went to the roof. It was really cool to see what this process looked like from up top, but it was scary getting down, so this was probably the first and last time for me” Mrs. Tatevosian said.
Teachers and administrators helped dismiss students to the barbeque to avoid a huge crowd and line. Through the smell and anticipation of receiving the burgers, students filled up the line, dancing to fun music, ready to eat. Another long standing tradition of popular and loved teachers Mr. Doom and Dr. Pruitt flipped burgers faster than expected.
Many seniors dressed up in Hawaiian shirts and colorful leis because this was a fun custom in the past. The 2024 theme was “USA” because ASB had wanted to keep last year’s theme of Hawaii, but switch it up a little. Seniors also brought their own digital cameras and polaroids instead of using their phones to make it even more fun and out of the box.
The senior barbeque is not only an excuse to eat delicious food, and hang out with friends but rather a “walk down memory lane” as it took place in the area where freshmen
and sophomores typically hang out.
Seniors look forward to their last on campus event, senior sunset, days before graduation. In the meantime, they should make all the memories they can whether it’s in class, in the hallways and events off campus. This is just the beginning of a school year full of more on campus and off campus events just like this one.
