This year’s Spirit Week offered proof that school spirit is alive and happening at Clark Magnet High School. Students displayed creativity and friendship throughout the week, as each day was dedicated to a different theme. The hallways were lively from Monday to Friday, full of people wearing colorful and unique clothing in order to show off their school spirit.
Students wore the jerseys of their favorite sports teams to start off the week. Everyone was connected by their enthusiasm for sports, whether it was the iconic Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls jersey or a Travis Kelce Kansas City Chiefs jersey. Jersey day wasn’t only about professional sports either; some students displayed the jerseys of their home schools and elementary schools.
Barbenheimer Day, inspired by two vastly different movies that were both released on July 21, 2023, gave students the option of dressing as either Barbie in pink or Oppenheimer in black. On one hand, students unleashed their inner Barbie with pink sweaters and skirts, embracing all things pink and glam. On the other, lots of students—some in suits, others in throwback suspenders—paid respect to Oppenheimer’s world. Barbenheimer Day encouraged students to display their individuality while also celebrating pop culture.
On Wednesday, people chose sides in the classic Country vs. Country Club showdown. While some dressed posh with delicate pearls, polos, and headbands, others channeled their inner cowgirls and cowboys by wearing denim, plaid shirts, and cowboy hats. “It was amazing seeing how everyone embraced the theme in their own unique ways. The element of surprise in our outfits made this week even more enjoyable,” junior Natalie Hovhannisyan said.
On the fourth day of Spirit Week, students were given a challenge: they were urged to bring anything but their backpacks. People came up with creative ways to transport their belongings, using suitcases, laundry baskets, car tires, and even their siblings. Students throughout each grade went to their classes using plenty of unique and entertaining methods of carrying their school work, making it very clear how creative the people at school are.
The entire week showcased school spirit in various ways, but the final day, “anything but backpack day,” really showed the creativity of the Clark students. They went above and beyond to have fun with it and make their peers laugh. One student went as far as bringing a toilet on a dolly. He passed out candy stored inside the toilet. “A freshman in my class brought a toddler play kitchen with his notebooks in it and another brought a birdcage. It was really fun seeing the effort and thought put into doing something creative and funny,” Mrs. Kirakosyan said.
During the day of the Homecoming dance, students were able to express their unique styles with a free dress day. Students shared their excitement about the coming evening, promising a night of unforgettable memories under the “Parisian” stars.
