Clark gets a new principal for a day
Glendale Education Foundation member Cynthia Guenther volunteered to be the principal for a day at Clark Magnet High School on Dec. 7 because she wanted to come to a high school and go to a school located in Crescenta Valley. Guenther took part in this event because she wanted to understand how the educational system is working, she said.
Guenther works for Avery Dennison as the Vice President, Finance, and Investor Relations. She’s been with the company for 21 years and is in charge of consolidated planning, forecasting and performance management processes for the company, along with being the spokesperson to the investment community. The company is a global leader in labeling and packaging materials and solutions used in every major market and industry.
As she walked around Clark, Guenther said that she noticed how this is a school of practical applications. Guenther said she was especially impressed by robotics and CADD along with the engineering lab. Guenther said that she was impressed by these classes because they’re classes that aren’t typically offered at other high schools.
When she walked around visiting the various math classes offered at Clark, she walked in on a class when a student asked, “What’s the importance of learning algebra?” Guenther said that algebra is used in finance.
Guenther said that she saw Clark as an amazing school with extremely integrated critical thinking. “I noticed the teachers at Clark are really passionate about their subject,” she said.
