On April 30, Glendale celebrated its annual Earth Day celebration in Central Park between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The main purpose of the environmental education fair is to educate about various ways to improve the environment. According to Ahmad Akkouli, Glendale Adult Work Center employee, “The fair’s main goal is to notify different citizens in Glendale what is happening to the environment in Glendale. This was done through establishing different booths and educating everybody how to preserve the environment.”

The Glendale Water and Power Department and the American Solar Energy set up booths with information and pamphlets to raise awareness about environmental projects in Glendale. “GWP has me here to promote water conservation,” said GWP employee Andres Azarian, “Some of the ways to save water is to take five-minute showers and turn off the faucet when brushing teeth.”

Not only were there employees from various environmental facilities, but employees from various city departments also taught about the careers in the emergency services personnel field. These booths included the Glendale Police Department, Glendale Fire Department and the Glendale Adventist Hospital. Various students from different high schools and colleges attended the annual Earth Day Fair to learn more about the Glendale Police Department.  “The reason I came here is to learn more about the environment,” said CSUN freshman John Ramirez. “But I also learned more about my future career that I wanted to pursue which was becoming a police officer.”

Entertainment during the fair included pop songs from Glendale High School’s band, games that were suitable for children and a performance by Glendale High School Drill Team. “We had a great time performing at the Earth Day Fair in front of other people,” said Jared Singlin, a Glendale High School senior and drill team member. “It was cool to get a different set of audience to watch us perform.”
