Recipients of awards get recognized at the PTSA Founder’s Day meeting.

The annual PTSA Founders Day took place in the auditeria Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.  The event was dubbed “Clark Stars,” a play-on-words relating to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Clark Reflections Award recipients were honored. In visual arts, winners included junior Edita Asiryan, and seniors Shakeh Aslanyan and Lernik Khechadorian. In the literature category, sophomores Sophia Arlantico, Ariette Reynaldo, Eric Serobyan and Sebastian Velazquez received the award, as did junior Demetrio M. Rebollo. Senior Patrick Castro won in the photography category. Freshman Celine Karabedian won in the choreography category and junior Austin Trace Borusiewicz won in the film category.

Velazquez said he was confused when he found out that he had won; he didn’t think he would. “Apparently I’m not as bad of a writer as I thought I was,” he said.

Khechadorian, Reynaldo, and Borusiewicz’s entries moved on to the District level competition.

Reynaldo had not expected to win either. “I feel humbled.” she said. “It was actually really fun writing it. I enjoyed the theme ‘Let your Imagination Fly.’” Reynaldo’s entree is about drawing in the margins of her notes and how it helps her focus.

To conclude the night, Borusiewicz’s short film was played for the audience and the ending was greeted by a hearty round of applause.
The Honorary Service Awards (HSA) are given to individuals who provide outstanding service to children and youth. HSA recipients of the night were Kevin Hoard, Erin Jeiranian, Lena Kortoshian, Bill Jacobson, Melissa O’Gara, John Over, Judy Thomsen and Randy Tiffany. Each recipient was given their award by someone who gave a speech about the recipient and the hard work they did to have earned the award.
