ASB rushes to deliver the Winter Formal
Every year there are a set number of events in school that happen the same time every year. However this year, the Junior Class Committee, headed by class President Timothy Cruz, decided to spice things up by moving the Junior Prom, a small scale version of the Senior Prom open to the entire school, from spring to winter, making it a winter formal. The reason for this, according to Cruz, is “to fill up the winter, since there is nothing really big going on during that time.”
The event is scheduled for Friday, Jan 30. What is more intricate is the theme. “We originally were going for a winter/Frozen type of theme,” said junior Jada Javier, the Student Store Commissioner, “but then decided to have a theme that’s about a romantic getaway. Then both the ASB and the Junior Committee agreed that the best setting for this would be Paris.” And so the theme is set to be “Midnight in Paris” with heavy emphasis on a romantic environment and artsy black and white décor.
The formal will consist of tables full of all forms of snacks and treats for the attendees that will be located outside the cafeteria, the freshman/sophomore area and a dance floor inside the cafeteria with music provided by Alexander Shabani, more commonly known as DJ Shabang. Students will be allowed to walk around the area, eat, dance or just hang out with friends as they please. ASB will also provide guests with a photo-booth to take pictures as they please.
“There’s a lot of excitement for this,” Cruz said, “but there is even more stress planning this.” The juniors wish to have 100 to 125 people attending this formal and to do this they must make sure to advertise it as best they can.
To further advertise the formal, the Junior Committee has asked the Dance and Music Clubs to perform next Friday, while ASB will serve snacks and of course sell the tickets. Junior Secretary Mayumi Lometillo and Javier will make hand drawn posters, while the Director of Publicity, Kristine Shaverdian, will be making the tickets. These will be sold beginning Jan. 12 for $20 with an ASB card and $25 without, and then increase by $5 every week until the winter formal.
