Students get to register for classes

With the new computer registration system, students and counselors are having an easier time signing up for classes.

Junior Anna Ayvazyan said that it would be more fair to everyone to use online registration. “I have been choosing photography since freshmen year but I never got a chance to turn my paper in on time. Forgetting to have certain papers signed or getting things turned in on time became a hassle.” Ayvazyan said. “My papers being on the bottom of the pile never gave me a good chance of getting my top choices of electives.”

Regardless of students having an easier time, counselors may have an easier time as well with what is a time-consuming process. Calling in each student alone for clarifying the choices of electives and academics for the following year was time-consuming. There are 865 students needed to register for classes, with just two school counselors.

“We finally don’t need to have all of you in our office choosing classes,” counselor Karine Turdjian said during the junior class assembly meeting on Jan. 27. In years before, students would choose their classes from the paper given by the counselors. The chances of them being in the class they chose were often based on their luck or if they were on top of the pile or not.

Now students are put in the position of a university student, and the classes are based on the punctuality registering firsthand online. The ability to add and delete classes for the following year will make it easier and fair for everyone, according to the counselors. The option of selecting alternate courses is also available. By selecting the Add/Edit Requests mode, next to the selected courses there is an option for alternates.

“It was a really easy process to sign up for my classes,” said junior Daniela Salazar. “It was really funny how some of my friends were seriously having a difficult time with this four-step registration.”
