(May 3, 2013) — The new Grand Theft Auto game, Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), is set to release on Sept. 13. The GTA series is developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. The sandbox action-adventure game is set in fictional Los Santos, San Andreas which is based on Los Angeles. One of the previous GTA games, GTA: San Andreas, was also set in Los Santos, San Andreas. Open world games are different from other games because you can do whatever you want without real-world consequences. “GTA games are like a lucid dream,” said junior Andrew Aghaian. “You can do things in the game that you can’t do in real life.” The GTA series also allows you to choose your storyline without you knowing. When you play as Niko Bellic in GTA IV, the missions you choose to accomplish determine whether you kill your cousin, Roman Bellic, or your girlfriend Kate at the end of the game. The trick is, you don’t know which mission kills off which character. The game allows players to not only break into vehicles like cars and motorcycles but also to fly helicopters and have the experience of flying virtually. Sophomore Julien Courtade said he particularly enjoys this aspect of the game. “I want to fly the helicopters because I want to be a navy fighter pilot when I grow up,” Courtade said. Unlike previous GTA games, GTA V will have three protagonists: Trevor, Michael and Franklin. In addition to these main characters, a middle-aged Armenian car dealer, Harut Vartanyan, is said to be put into the game as well with the title “moneylender.” It is also rumored that Vartanyan is an antagonist that does insurance fraud and that irritates the other characters in the game. Anyway this game will be played, either just driving around and raging havoc throughout the city, or completing missions to earn money, it is sure to be a lot of fun.
