Teachers introduce themselves
(September 19, 2012) — On Back to School Night last week, the hallways of Clark were filled with parents eager to learn about the new school year. Parents got to experience a little bit of what their students go through on a daily basis. Just as some students complain about getting from class to class, parents too found their evening challenging at times.
“This is so complicated!” a Clark parent shouted to no one in particular as she walked to the next classroom after the bell had already rung. Each class was ten minutes, with a three-minute passing period. Still, some parents asked for a longer passing period. “You need a 15 minute passing. It takes forever to get there and once you’re there, it’s over,” another parent commented.
Once the parents were in the classrooms, the halls were empty save for a few students having a quiet conversation or the footsteps of parents who arrived late. Some classrooms were empty either because no parent came or the teacher wasn’t there. A few parents were annoyed that some teachers were not in their classroom, while others used that time to go find the next class on their schedule.
A ninth grade parent said that she likes Clark so far. Her son likes the technology part, more specifically, the photography and digital aspects of Clark. She was disappointed that one of the teachers was not there because she was really looking forward to meeting the teacher. A tenth grade student said that she loves Clark and that being in tenth grade is better than being in ninth because she’s not at the bottom anymore.
Overall, parents and students attending the event said they were happy with Clark and have high hopes for this year and years to come. Some said they wanted more information on how to get scholarships and financial aid for all seniors who soon will be experiencing college life.
