(September 29, 2005) — About 300 freshmen arrived at the covered area on Sept. 16 as they gathered for the annual pancake breakfast. While they scrambled to look for friends, teacher Kristina Provost asked for their silence. A little dissatisfied by their reaction, Principal Doug Dall told the freshmen to show some appreciation for what they have at Clark. ASB coordinated and paid for Clark’s fifth annual Pancake Breakfast, which started at 8:30 a.m. Lining up for their pancakes, students were overjoyed with the free time they had and even made acquaintances with strangers. At one table a group of boys built a juice-box tower that was about a foot high. A syrup-drinking contest was held among friends as well. “I hope I don’t get diabetes from this,” said freshman Shant Kevonian. As students finished their breakfast, a group of girls full of energy started to dance. Lilit Manukian and Paula Kholobekian, two of the girls in the group, said they were going to run for ASB. Unlike this year, only three people from the freshman class ran for ASB last year. As a project for her Tech Literacy class, teacher Judith Craemer asked her students to take pictures at the breakfast. With the pictures, students will make posters in Photoshop, and then they will be displayed at next year’s breakfast. Dall, who had cooking duties that day, said he thought the event was very well organized. “This is a good opportunity for students to appreciate what people do for them,” he said. As the breakfast came to a close, students who had been sitting practically next to strangers made new acquaintances that day. A small group of friends started a game of hacky-sac. Later on a couple more boys joined, and from there new friendships were formed.
