(June 16, 2006) — Although Clark has no official sports team, the school offers intramurals. It brings out the competition in everyone during that 40-minute enrichment period. The energy and pure fun of intramurals bring so many people at our school together. For juniors and seniors, intramurals especially provides an opportunity for good times with friends and the chance to play competitive sports, since P.E. is offered only through sophomore year. Every year is memorable, but this year will obviously be unforgettable for the class of ’06. This year’s World Series tournament had its moments, such as the Red Sox making its way through the finals. To get into the feel of things, all members on the team wore “red socks.” “We knew it’d be a good idea, so we went to Sports Chalet and all got red socks,” senior Gor Arevian said. For two days the game lasted with both games resulting in ties. In the end, the Phillies won. Though the Red Sox got second place, they really got into the spirit of the game for the tournament. “I like it when teams really get into the flow of the tournament,” P.E. teacher Judy Thomsen said. Besides the enthusiasm expressed during the World Series, an amazing quintuple overtime took place during Clark’s Three on Three Basketball. Five overtimes—is that even possible? Well, this year it was. The never-ending game continued as each team followed up with shots. “This was the tournament that wouldn’t end,” Thomsen said. Filled with energy, a crowd of nearly 70 spectators attended this eventful game. The bell rang, and the game was still tied, then a rematch occurred and yet another tie. As for specific individuals, seniors Miriam Hernandez and Danica Valencia were “pioneers” in getting more girls to join the Girl Division of Intramurals. “I thought it was so cool that we were able to open it for everyone, for it to be equal. Not only could guys play, but the girls as well,” Hernandez said when asked about how it felt to have started intramurals for girls. “I’m going miss the people more than the sports, the teachers were great, and just the atmosphere of other girls playing was great,” Valencia said.
