Wanderlust’s selection of signature and seasonal flavors.

Born in Los Angeles, Wanderlust Creamery welcomed its second official location in Atwater Village last March, living up to its name and continuing to spread internationally inspired ice cream flavors throughout the city. Settled between the multitude of cafes and boutiques spanning Glendale Boulevard, this artisanal ice cream shop has become a sensation among locals and visitors with its exquisite, natural flavors and compelling texture.

Wanderlust has one other location in Tarzana and frequently appears at the LA Smorgasborg every Sunday, spawning wide attention at the event. Its new addition to the bustling village fits in perfectly with the varied locality and upon its opening, my friends and I hurried to taste their signature flavors.

Unlike your typical ice cream shop, behind the freezer window, multifarious colors dotted the buckets and eye catching names such as: Coconut Beurre Noisette and Apple Wasabi Sorbet provoked endless samples. Aside from the traditional single, double or triple scoop menu, Wanderlust also offers an option named “A Flight Around the World” which includes 14 mini scoops of the creamery’s illustrious ice creams.

After an immeasurable amount of time, I settled on two flavors: Pretzel + Rúgbrauð, toasted pretzel ice cream with caramelized rye crumbs originating in Iceland; and Ca Phe Sữa Đá Remix, condensed milk ice cream with Vietnamese coffee ganache and caramelized cacao originating in Vietnam; all atop an ube flavored cone.

My friends split one scoop with two flavors: Tonka Bean, custard ice cream with hints of vanilla bean, toasted almond, and caramel inspired in South America; and Calabaza En Tacha X Dulce De Leche a compilation originating in Mexico containing piloncillo ice cream mixed with spiced pumpkin and dulce de leche.

However, the adventurous flavors did come at a somewhat pricey cost with one scoop costing $4.75 plus another dollar for a cone, as well as, an extra 25 cents for a split scoop. Furthermore, aside from the ice cream and cones, there are hardly any choices for toppings or sauces to sprinkle onto your dessert.

On the other hand, the workers are very considerate and cheerful, offering unlimited samples and insight into any of the flavors or origins. Their exotic, globetrotting flavors alternate seasonally, so new international creations appear monthly. Every flavor is crafted carefully using only natural ingredients, balancing the right amount of sugar and offering alternatives such as vegan options.

Wanderlust Creamery’s extensive array of high quality ice cream and travel inspired theme attracts many visitors and is entitled to a visit from every sweet-seeking individual. After all, everyone deserves a treat from time to time!
