Beef Shawarma plate with french fries

A craving for shawarma might not be a common desire … until you try Best Shawarma. Located on Glenoaks Boulevard, this Middle Eastern restaurant serves an array of foods, with shawarma being its shining star.

The restaurant is a medium-sized space filled with tables and stools. Parking is always a hassle since the eatery is in a shopping center with both Hungry Howie’s Pizza and Yum Yum Donuts. Once you walk in, though, you will be hooked by the smell of fresh beef shawarma. Though the cooking area seems small, there are many workers looking busy and ready to serve. The employees taking your order greet you with a smile and ask how you are. Even though your conversation with this person might last longer than you would expect, the food is why you should go to Best Shawarma.

Since the name of the restaurant already tells you what it’s known for, it’s not hard to choose what you want to eat. They serve chicken, beef, pork and lamb shawarma. The beef shawarma plate is my go-to meal. The plate comes with shawarma, your choice of jasmine rice or fries, a side salad and hummus. Diners also have the option of getting house sauce or ranch, but the house sauce is definitely what makes the whole meal come to life; it’s a thousand island sauce, but better.

The plate is definitely enough to fill you up with leftovers on the side. Shawarma wraps are also available if you’re look for something on the go. Their menu does not limit itself to shawarma, though. They serve traditional Armenian BBQ as well as falafel, tabbouleh and chicken soup.

Though the ordering process is swift, waiting for your food seems like it takes ages. Ordering fries means you have to patiently wait for them to cut and fry them for you. Orders are usually ready in 20 minutes. If you have placed a small order, this can get a bit annoying, but it sure is worth it. Once they say “your order is ready,” you forget about the time you’ve waited because your full attention is on the tasty, hot food.
