Back in late January, Why Don’t We announced to their fandom, the Limelights, that they were going to be taking a break from social media to write and produce their next album. Although many Limelights were upset by this news, they were excited about the new music that was to come. 

For eight long months, Why Don’t We went silent and there was no trace of them anywhere. It wasn’t until Sept. 25 that Why Don’t We announced their comeback with an Instagram post captioned: “we’re back.” The day that many Limelights were looking forward to had finally arrived. 

Just a couple of days later, on Sept. 29, Why Don’t We released their newest single, “Fallin.’” This song resonates with many teenagers as the song deals with a forbidden but  addicting romance between two individuals.

The song itself can provoke an adrenaline rush throughout the listener’s body due to its upbeat and metallic melody. The beat makes listeners feel as though they are in a concert with flashing lights all around them, all while still being in the comfort of their own homes. 

In an interview posted on their YouTube channel, the members of Why Don’t We go into detail about what they have been doing for those eight months they were away and they also explain the making of their newest single. Daniel Seavey, the producer and a member of the band, explains how on his way to the studio, the entire soundtrack for “Fallin’” just came to his mind out of nowhere. “I ran into the studio, made like a little loop of the beat, and went to the guys and was like ‘yo we need to write this right now,’” Seavey said. “We wrote it in like an hour or two.” 

An accurate representation of what the lyrics of the song are supposed to signify is sung by Jonah Marais, another member of the band, in verse 1:

Caught in the moment, not even thinkin’ twice

Everything’s frozen, nothing but you and I

Can’t stop my heart from beating, why do I love this feeling?

Make me a promise, tell me you’ll stay with me

If I’m bein’ honest, I don’t know where this leads

But that’s the only question, baby, don’t keep me guessin’

These lines show how the song follows the love story of an individual who has fallen head over heels for someone and wants nothing else but to be with them. That individual loves being around the presence of their lover and does not care what anyone else thinks about them. 

The “Fallin’” music video has reached over two million views in just two days. This new single has been a great way to kick off the new era of Why Don’t We and is a perfect introduction to their new album that is yet to come.
