Since her debut in 2016, Billie Eilish has gained popularity for her breathtaking voice and meaningful lyrics. Her first debut studio album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? was released on March 29. Her album charted at No. 1 last week, making her the first artist born in the 2000s with a No. 1 album. In the first week of its release, the album was able to climb an astonishing 313,000 album units.

Billie Eilish is an American singer and songwriter best known for her debut single “Ocean Eyes,” a song originally written by her brother, Finneas O’Connell. She was only fourteen years old at the time, which impressed many people. At eleven years old, Eilish was already a musical prodigy. To this day, she continues to release successful music.

Her new album has captured her fans’ hearts with its very emotional lyrics. Some of her songs’ beats give off a scary and mysterious vibe. As an indie pop singer, her songs have a certain uniqueness that make her different from other artists in the genre.

In her song ‘bury a friend,’ Eilish uses intriguing sound effects that include an Easy-Bake Oven and a dental drill. Eilish and her brother experimented with sounds they had never used before, but this experiment had a positive outcome. With such a unique sound, she has made a name for herself in the music industry.

Another one of Eilish’s new songs is ‘ilomilo.’ Just looking at the title, it’s difficult to tell what this song will be about. When Eilish was featured on the Web series, Hot Ones, she revealed that the song was based on one of her favorite video games, also called ilomilo. This game is essentially about two characters who are separated and need to reunite.

“I used to play ilomilo a lot,” Eilish said. “I loved ilomilo. That was like my favourite game in the world…the whole idea of the game is just losing the person you love and then finding them again.”

With the concept of a simple video game, Eilish was able to write a whole song, and it worked. ‘Ilomilo’ focuses on the fear of separation and and how it affects an individual.

One of the most popular songs on her album is “wish u were gay.” With 31.7 million views on YouTube and 113.7 million listens on Spotify, the song has a very simple but relatable message. Eilish wrote the song about wishing a boy or girl was gay to make the pain of rejection less harsh.

In the song she sings, “To spare my pride/To give your lack of interest an explanation/Don’t say I’m not your type/Just say that I’m not your preferred sexual orientation.”
