Two friends are standing against each other, in an epic battle spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. The two greatest American heroes will fight, leaving it up to the audience to pick a side.

With Avengers: Age of Ultron fresh in theaters, Disney’s Marvel Studios has officially ended phase two of their cinematic universe, and with a bang. The film was just an absolute burst of fun, packing on the action, humor and even some human emotion — something the previous film lacked.

In general, the film improved on its predecessor and ended up being one of Marvel’s best movies. With phase two now behind Disney, phase three begins this summer with Ant-Man, but the real launch of phase three begins next May with Captain America: Civil War.

Earlier last week, Marvel commenced principal photography on the sequel to Captain America in Atlanta, Georgia. The film will also shoot in such locations as Germany, Puerto Rico and Iceland, making it bound to have some gorgeous scenery. A release date has also been set for May 6, 2016, just a little over a year after Age of Ultron.

Returning to direct are Joe and Anthony Russo, who were initiated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is one of the best, if not the best, Marvel movie. Also, a majority of the cast from Winter Soldier will be reprising their roles. Other than the obvious return of Chris Evans as Captain America, also coming back is Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier), Emily VanCamp (Agent 13) and Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow/Crossbones).

But that’s just the beginning, because joining the cast is essentially the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only is a great deal of the Avengers themselves joining, such as Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) and Paul Bettany (Vision), but new additions Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Daniel Bruhl (Baron Zemo), William Hurt (General Ross) and Martin Freeman in an unconfirmed role.

With such a massive cast, it seems that this film is going to be Avengers 2.5 rather than Captain America 3, which certainly isn’t a misfortune by any means. Marvel obviously wants to have all their characters interacting in some way before Avengers: Infinity War parts 1 and 2, and using this sequel as an outlet to do so is a great idea.
