Potato fries are the staple of most fast-food restaurants. They are simply chopped, seasoned with salt, and then fried resulting in a tasty savory crispy snack that no one can resist. Due to their simplicity, potato fries have become a staple in the average American’s diet. With a simple snack like fries people around the world have made it possible to add their cultural seasonings and spices to reach their desired flavor, both Potato Bro and Potato Corner are french fries franchises with a unique Asian flavor that have made their way across the seas.
In 2024, Potato Bro, a new fast-food restaurant, opened its doors on the second floor of the Glendale Galleria. Potato Bros’ slogan “world’s best-flavored shaker fries” has caused controversy to arise following their brand, because Potato Bro is a recent establishment compared to older well-known shaker fries fast food establishments. One of the most popular is Potato Corner which was founded in 1992 in the Philippines and now has 34 branches in the USA. Ironically Potato Corner’s slogan is also “the world’s best flavored french fries,” not only is Potato Corner much older than Potato Bro, but also has more locations than Potato Bro, which only has one location.
Even though both Potato Bro and Potato Corner are known for their shaker fries, the two establishments are significantly different from each other. For example, Potato Bro offers takoyaki on their menu which is a wheat flour-based Japanese snack filled with toppings ranging from green onion all the way to chopped-up octopus.
Potato Corner has a much larger menu than Potato Bro. Some items that Potato Corner has on their menu that Potato Bro does not have on theirs include baked potatoes, chili cheese fries, and chicken wings. These minor alterations to their menus are what make both establishments unique.
Despite all their differences, their main similarity comes down to both fast food restaurants being popular for the same item which is flavored fries. Starting off with pricing and sizing, both Potato Corner and Potato Bro offer two sizes: regular and large. However, at Potato Bro, their regular fries are priced at $7.50 and their large fries at $8.75 while Potato Corners’ regular fries are priced at $7.75 and their large fries at $9.00.

Both fast food restaurants offer BBQ, Chilli BBQ, Sour Cream onion, and cheese-flavored seasonings as their staples. However, Potato Corner also offers a garlic parmesan-flavored seasoning. Both french fry establishments also have sweet-flavored french fry options, Potato Corners being cinnamon sugar and Potato Bros being sweet corn. Given this
Both restaurants are located fairly close to one another at walking distance, people have been sorted into two diverse groups, organized based on their preference for shaker fry establishments. “I enjoy a bolder taste in my flavored fries which is why I personally prefer Potato Corner over Potato Bro. Also for me, Potato Corner is the original flavored fries,” junior Isabela Orudzhyan said. On the other hand, other students prefer Potato Bro for its convenient fries holder packaging.
