Clark at the Montrose Christmas Parade

Clark Magnet’s Relay for Life Club will be taking part in the 37th annual Montrose Christmas Parade on Friday. Junior Sareen Shatikian, and vice president of the club, said that she is very excited to be involved, as this is her first time participating in the parade.

“It really is awesome to know that our club is going to be in the parade,” she said. “I think it’s a wonderful chance for the community to also get involved with Relay for Life, once they see us coming in our truck.”

Relay for Life will be decorating a pickup truck with Christmas decorations, ranging from garlands to poinsettias.“So far we don’t know exactly what we will be putting, but if you see a truck coming down the street that looks a Christmas tree, that’s us!” Shatikian said.

Approximately 40 Clark student will be volunteering during the parade representing various clubs and student organizations. The volunteers at the parade, named “Santa’s helpers,” will help by putting up caution tape and cones in preparation for the businesses that will be rolling through the east end of Honolulu.

David Black, advisor for Clark’s Robotics Team 696, also confirmed the team’s presence at the parade. “This year, the team will be driving both the 2012 and 2013 robots in the parade, and the new (to us) Chevrolet Suburban and trailer donated by Lexus of Glendale. The vehicles and robots will be decorated with lights.”

The event takes place at 6 p.m., with the actual parade starting at the corner of Rosemont and Honolulu Avenues and continuing on to its finish at Verdugo Boulevard.
