Nathan Sykes releases his first single, ‘Kiss Me Quick,’ since The Wanted’s hiatus was announced in 2014.

After being a part of a boy band, The Wanted, since 2009, Nathan Sykes decided it was time to go his own way. Parting from the band caused him to reintroduce himself and to develop a different style.

The Wanted mainly created very pop and upbeat music. Sykes now has developed a more calm, jazzy, and R&B-influenced sound. With his single, “Kiss Me Quick,” the twenty-two-year-old English singer reveals a sound to foreshadow his future songs in his upcoming album, which expected to be released later this year.

In “Kiss Me Quick,” Sykes hits all the high notes with his melodic and expressive voice. During his boy band days, the spotlight was equally divided into five parts. Now that Sykes is alone, all the spotlight is on him and therefore fans can truly appreciate his musical talent.

Sykes has put out a very catchy and cheerful song. With the use of trumpets and drums, the genre of R&B is established. However, the jazz aspects of the song make it sound very similar to those of Justin Timberlake’s. The intro to “Kiss Me Quick” sounds almost identical to the beginning of “Suit and Tie” by Timberlake. Both songs utilize similar instruments and accompanying chords to the melody. As a new artist, Sykes should try to develop his own original ideas instead of mimicking that of Timberlake’s.

The music video for Sykes’ single is also very professional and fitting. The video’s extreme use of black and white colors accurately portray a visual of the song. Sykes’ carefree dance moves  and his outfits demonstrate his similarity to Timberlake as well.

This single promises a bright future for Nathan Sykes as a solo artist. Quitting a boy band and going solo ensures a successful career for him.
